This week, Jaya has been grappling with some big concepts: infinity and death. 4 year olds are pretty amazing this way. One minute you're helping snap their jeans, the next minute they're asking you if infinity is a word or a number. My dad passed away three years ago in November but Jaya's just getting his head around it now. "Poppys died and in heaven and he's never coming back", he announces. Four year olds just say it like it is.
So his newest game is called "Astronauts died in Heaven". His toy astronauts fly up to heaven in their rocket ships, where they die, and then they stay there forever. But, he's OK with it. This is actually a really happy game. The astronauts are always really excited to stay up in heaven forever. "WOW", Jaya says, "that astronaut really died up there in heaven!"
We should all stay this innocent.
