Drinks & Debates

As much as I was looking forward to seeing Joe Biden corner Sarah Palin on a question about dinosaurs (one can always dream) I opted last night to skip the debates and enjoy margaritas and juicy burgers at Met Bar with my dear friend Alison M. But I did catch the perky "you betcha!" soundbites when I got home. The Republican analysts praised her for her ability to "connect with the people", which led me to this thought. The hype around Sarah Palin is so much built around her every-day soccer mom-ness, her "just like us" vibe. But how did "just-like-us-ness" become a defining quality for a leader of the free world? Shouldn't that person be someone entirely exceptional??
