Parents are suckers for activities that can transport them back to warm & fuzzy childhood moments. Case in point here, the Mary Poppins Sing-along. If ever an event was a thinly veiled excuse for parents to belt out Disney songs this is it. I bought tickets to this event as soon as I found out about it, planning a Mommy & Jaya afternoon he was sure to treasure - a first trip to a movie theater, Mary Poppins larger than life, popcorn, followed by pizza at my favorite, The Village Kitchen. We downloaded the songs.
We practiced. We discussed the finer points of the movies, specifically, could Burt & Santa fit in the chimney at the same time,
and why Katie Nanna was mad and wanted to leave Jane and Michael (caretakers always leaving or getting killed off in Disney movies, a troubling point). The cinema had the air of a premiere as we waited to get in, with entire families dressed up in character and goodie bags handed out. Jaya was thrilled with his glow stick and tambourine favors. But about halfway through, he turned to me and said "Mommy, why is this so LONG??". And I was just getting warmed up.

I would have gone with you!! What's the old saying? Childhood - wasted on the young.
