Putting it all together.

Jaya is in the middle of what I call pause-speak. Pause-speak seems to be a part of learning how to string together a compound thought. Basically, it consists of throwing in about 4 or 5 "uhmmms" for every 3 or 4 words, followed by a whole string of "because"-s preeceding the second thought. You can practically see the neurons sparking and crackling as they strain to put a big-kid thought together. Then he looks so pleased when he gets the whole phrase out. It's usually followed up with a kind of self-congratulatory, "yeah!". It just kills me.

Erin says "ummm" a lot and I can't quite figure out the context. Is she thinking? Or, does she think it's a real word with a specific meaning?
