About this time in winter, and let me remind everyone, we are NOT almost done with winter, we are smack dab in the middle of it,
we start losing are weekend mojo. Lacking any outdoor options, weekends start to turn into an endless Science Museum / Childrens Museum rotary. Not that these aren't fabulous places to go, but anything gets stale after a while. Which was why we were delighted to discover the Harvard Museum of Natural History yesterday morning.
It's like a tiny distilled version of the New York Museum of Natural history, chock full of mammalia & dino-fossils, with even a full size fossil of a kronosaurus! Yes, a kronosaurus! Plus, it's free on Sunday mornings. Jaya was in heaven, and there was even an elephant for Annika. The only complaint was "Mommy, why is it so small?".

So glad you discovered the Harvard Museum of Natural History.
The museum is just a 6-7 minute walk from Harvard Square, or 15 minutes from the Porter Square Commuter Rail station (1/4 and 3/4 miles respectively), and open 9 am to 5 pm 361 days/year. Check out free lectures, and events and classes for kids on their website at www.hmnh.harvard.edu.
Hey there! We went there too, it's actually in my old neighborhood :) Robby loved the dino poo and teeth but was having nothing to do with the dead animals behind the glass. Yet, Ali was all about the dead animals--go figure! Not a bad museum and free on Sundays.
